Tips for the Well Seasoned Traveler

About

My name is Mary Becker, and I am a senior at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. I am majoring in Media Art and Design, but my concentration more specifically is corporate communication, with a ton of journalism classes thrown in. As my minor,  I am also studying cultural communication.

As a girl who has been traveling extensively since infancy, I have a lot of fun experiences that I felt I needed to share. I  will give you a little history about  myself so you can get a little bit of a better idea of my travels:

My dad was in the navy until I was in high school, so I have lived in 10 houses and gone to 7 schools in my 21 years of life. I was born in San Diego, but moved to New Port, then to Northern Virginia all before I turned three. After my brother was born, the family moved back to New Port for a few months, then back across the country to San Diego (getting dizzy yet?). After two more years on the west coast, we made the big leap to Brussels, Belgium, where I spent 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. In the three years my family lived in Brussels, I think we visited upwards of 10 countries in Europe, and thankfully I was old enough to remember all of it vividly. Right before the end of 4th grade, we moved back to the states, this time to Norfolk, Virginia. Not including the time I am at school in Harrisonburg, I have lived in the Tidewater area of Virginia ever since, albeit in 3 different houses.

Since I’ve been in college, I have been up and down the east coast, visiting friends and family from Philadelphia to Nashville, even down to Disney World. I also had the opportunity to study abroad in London for three months last spring. Needless to say, I made a trip out of the city whenever I could. Within England I visited Greenwich, Oxford, Stratford, Bath, Liverpool and Stonehenge. I also made it to Cork, Blarney and Kinsale, Ireland and Edinburgh, Scotland. Across the Channel, I visited Paris, Brussels and Bruges, all places I had been while I lived in Brussels.

I hope at some point one of my stories will inspire you to do some traveling of your own!

Incase you were wondering, my header image is a highly edited version of this photo that I took in Kinsale, Ireland. It kills me that you can see my reflection in the window!
